Art with a Message: Mural Celebration
3:08
Grades: 6 - 12

Video Description: Street art murals and graffiti are recognized as art and are celebrated in projects that recognize the people who once lived in the inner city.

Type of Video: Tour*
Unique Video ID: AandA-MuralCelebration**

Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • For Discussion: Discuss the value of public art. Should communities support it? Why or why not?
  • Activity Idea: Give students these parameters for a proposed piece of street art; a red brick wall, 22 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Using images from the video as guides, students should then design their own street art to fit these dimensions. Although this painting will not actually be done, they should have a colored drawing made to scale.

*Tours take students to laboratories, studios, workspaces, museums and other diverse “in the field” and community locations related to the area of study.
